JOHN
CARLISLE John Carlisle
may be the most well-published writer in the field of poker psychology. With a
Master's Degree in Counseling from West Virginia University and a Bachelor's
from Lock Haven U. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology, John has found his
niche as "the Poker Counselor." He is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) who
works with troubled kids, families, and couples. He is also a poker enthusiast
who understands the undeniable link between human psychology and the game of
poker.
John is a Senior Writer for Top Pair magazine. In
addition, he is a regular writer for Poker Player newspaper, Canadian
Poker Player magazine, PokerPages.com, PokerNews.com, and TopPoker.org. His
is also a regular contributor at one of the most popular poker websites in
Europe, GutShot.com. His articles have appeared on FoxSports.com, Live
Action Poker Magazine, Full Tilt magazine, Gambling Online
Magazine, Bluff magazine, Poker Pro magazine, and 5th St.
International Poker magazine. The San Francisco Chronicle looked to
John to provide insight into the psychology of poker in 2005. Mr. Carlisle is a
regular guest on the Ante Up radio network, which is syndicated on
several radio stations across the southern US.
In 2004, his article
inspecting playing poker while battling Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) was
the monthly headline feature of PokerPages.com. His interview and article (Top
Pair magazine) inspecting the psychology of Phil "Poker Brat" Hellmuth garnered
attention for poker's elite. His controversial opinion that women are more apt
to be better poker players than men appeared in a column at pokernews.com,
causing poker chat rooms and forums across the internet to wildly debate his
contentions. You may be familiar with his tag line, "Now go make it happen."
John Carlisle's readers and listeners have been doing just that thanks to his
poker counseling.
